Top Ten Reasons to Give Birth at the American Hospital in Paris

10. You are guaranteed a spacious, private room.
9. No one will kick you out mere hours after giving birth. You can stay as long as you'd like. Really.
8. A one to one nurses to newborn ratio is maintaned at all times.

7. They moisturize your baby's skin with the most amazing smelling cream ever invented.

6. They are very liberal with the drugs during labor. No need to wait until you are 4 cm dialated for pain relief. All you have to do is ask once for pain relief and you'll get it.
5. Every room comes equipped with satellite TV and WiFi.
4. You can order a bottle of champagne sent to your room. It will be delivered by a guy wearing a tuxedo.
3. Three gourmet meals are delivered daily. A sample menu: crab salad on green apple gelée, free range chicken with taragon sauce and pommes dauphinoise, bread, cheese and of course, mini pastries for dessert. I loved the food so much, I even took a picture of it (see above).

2. Wine served with every meal, of course.
1. A hairdresser and make-up artist on call to prep the you for your first photos after the birth of your bébé.

  3. Wow, sounds absolutely amazing. Especially the food. My sister-in-law brought me food in the hospital after my first child, and that was a real godsend. #1 cracks me up.

  4. I am wondering-- if you give birth in the American Hospital, is it reimboursed pretty well? We live closer to many other hospitals, but the AmericanHospital isn't that far (i live in the 92, north). I'm pregnant with my first baby here and though i do speak French, the whole system is confusing and makes me long to be back in California... And the American Hospital does have AMAZING food. I got my appendix out there about 5 years ago. One bad thing, though, is that one of the nurses/orderlies took 100euros out of my wallet-i was drugged and hooked up to and IV so she was getting my something from my locker. i didn't notice til i got home :(

  5. To "I'll be your mirror" - if you email informations.patients@ahparis.org they will give you all of the details you want to know about out of pocket expenses after social security reimbursement. To me, it seems like you'd want to have private healthcare to go here.

  6. Do you recommend a specific OBGYN? I am having my prenatal care here in Senegal, but can't deliver here due to complications. So, on to Paris! I really like the looks of things at the American Hospital, but I don't know how to choose a doctor from their list other than just picking the one with the coolest sounding name.

  7. Hi Christy,
There's no email or contact info that I could find associated with your post so I hope you come back to visit this page. There is a fabulous American ob/gyn at AHP named Dr. Jocelyn McGinnis. I'd recommend you contact her thru email and explain your situation and ask her she'd be willing to take you on as a patient. She's a very in demand physician but she always makes an effort to prioritize Americans since giving birth in a foreign country can be daunting. Also, there is an American pediatrician also working at AHP, Dr. John Lovejoy. You can request that your baby's exit checkup be done by him. His email is below. Congrats on your upcoming wonderful event! jocelyn.mcginnis@ahparis.org AND for the pediatrician: john.lovejoy@ahparis.org
